Glossary

163 terms from the book, defined in our own words, with the chapters where each appears. Timestamps are positions in the audiobook's chapter files.

A

  • Active and passive position

Taking the wheel of your own thoughts, versus living by horoscopes and accepting fate as handed to you.

  • Adherent

A person whose thought energy runs at a pendulum's frequency, feeding it with attention and feeling.

  • Alternatives flow

The streams of cause and effect that run through the alternatives space along the path of least resistance. Arguing and criticizing swim against it; leaving it alone usually lets the best outcome arrive. Where intention is focused steers your movement across it.

  • Alternatives space

An endless information field holding scripts for every event that was, is or will be, acting as a template for how matter can move. Spelled "alternative space" in places.

  • Amalgam

A chosen background formula that sets the warm tone of the whole reflection, named after the gold Venetian glassmakers added to mirror backing.

  • Apples fall to the sky

His image for entertaining an unfamiliar idea until it feels ordinary.

  • Arrow of intention / noose

Attention fixed on a single object, which a pendulum can then grab and hold.

  • Asleep in waking

Living absorbed in a role or on autopilot, as in a non-lucid dream.

  • Assemblage point

The Toltec name for the focus of perception; its position fixes what you perceive.

  • Attunement

Setting your thought energy to the parameters of a chosen lifeline.

  • Aura / protective shield

The energy field around the body, imagined as a sphere and strengthened by exercise.

B

  • Balanced forces

Impersonal pressures that arise wherever excess potential exists and act to erase it, by any route and with no regard for fairness or your wishes. They often produce the opposite of what you intended.

  • Balanced intention

Wanting without desiring, caring without worrying, striving without distraction, acting without demanding.

  • Battle

His word for constant tension, struggle and self-discipline, which pendulums push you toward.

  • Box of conditioning

The worldview and role the pendulums install in you.

C

  • Central meridians

The two main energy channels along the spine, one carrying energy up and one down; their width sets your energy level.

  • Charisma of an epoch

The shared hue of an era, drawn in by collective intention.

  • Choice

Placing an order, as in a restaurant, instead of striving. A wish or dream is not a choice and does not come true; a real choice does.

  • Clay golem

The pendulum seen as a game opponent, not a real enemy.

  • Clear sight

A calm, non-analytical gaze at the scene, near and far, used in the Transaction exercise.

  • Co-creation

Serving God by shaping your own layer of the world together with him.

  • Comfort zone

What feels familiar and normal to you, not what is objectively better. Slides can widen it.

  • Coordination

A calm, self-sufficient state with no inner or outer importance, offered as the real alternative to confidence; also the principle that your attitude to events shapes how they unfold, so once you have chosen you assume things are going as they should.

  • Credo

Your own values and way of living, which he says you already have, sealed in a "box" of importance.

D

  • Declaration of intention

A present-tense statement of your goal, made while taking an energy credit.

  • Delay factor

The lag between a thought form and its physical materialization.

  • Dependent relationship

A tie built on conditions ("if you do this, I will do that") or on comparison ("I am good because you are bad"). It divides people into opposing sides and upsets balance.

  • Designations

The labels and categories the mind uses to sort what it meets.

  • Desire

Attention fixed on a goal, which implies the goal is absent and may never come; it builds excess potential. Intention, by contrast, is attention on moving toward it.

  • Destructive pendulum

A pendulum that uses people for energy and competes aggressively for followers.

  • Direct vision

Seeing without the eyes, through the brain tuning to the field.

  • Dissonance

Radiating at a frequency unlike a pendulum's, which stills its sway toward you.

  • Door

The route or activity that leads to your goal; goal and door can coincide.

  • Dual mirror

Reality as a mirror with two sides: the physical world is the reflection and the alternatives space is the image. Also called simply the mirror, which gives your relationship to the world back to you with a delay. The Foreword's "mirror of alternatives" is the same picture: physical reality as a reflection of a chosen sector.

E

  • Energy body

    Physiological and free energy together.

  • Energy credit

A harmful habit seen as an advance of energy repaid with interest.

  • Energy fountains

Your ability to take in and use energy, not how much you hold in reserve.

  • Energy vampire

A person who unconsciously feeds on others' energy by tuning to their frequency.

  • Euphoria

A sudden energy jump that opens distant sectors and then collapses.

  • Excess potential

A local energy tension created by giving something more importance than it deserves, whether through desire, blame, worship, pride, guilt, inferiority or fear. Balanced forces then try to remove it, usually at the cost of whoever carries it.

  • Explosion wave

An expanding sphere of energy pictured right after the flash of the frame.

F

  • Favorite

An adherent the pendulum lifts to a leading role because he suits its structure.

  • Flash pendulum

    A short-lived pendulum created by a one-off synchronized act.

  • Forte

What a person is most passionate or proud about, treated as their resonant frequency.

  • Frail

A person's own frequency or unique set of traits, the soul's signature. A noun the narration uses on its own; probably a related coinage to Frailing.

  • Frailing

A relationship technique: drop the aim of receiving and replace it with the aim of giving, mainly by giving the other person full attention, which attunes you to that person's frail.

  • Frame

One integral snapshot of the finished goal, with its feeling and a one-word title; used in the "window" (Chapter IX) and later flashed in the mind at odd moments (Chapter XIX).

  • Free energy

Cosmic energy that passes through you; it cannot be stored and feeds intention, arriving as vitality. Also called the energy of intention in its role of generating motivation and drive.

  • Gentle dodge

Agreeing with a pendulum's first blow, then steering it, as in Aikido.

  • Goal amalgam

I

  • Idealization

Overrating something and treating it as an idol; it creates a dependent relationship.

  • Ignoring

Not reacting at all to a pendulum, as opposed to avoiding it, which lets the thing in and then tries to push it out.

A deliberately odd or cheerful response to a provocation that breaks the pendulum's script.

  • Indigo children

Children said to be born with a strong sense of dignity and independence.

  • Inner tension

  • Lifeline

A chain of neighbouring sectors with similar script and scenery, along which a life runs until an event changes the script. You are always on the one matching your thought energy; negative thought energy moves you to a worse one.

  • Outer sphere

Imagining a boundary five to seven metres out that pulls you, while you play the target slide.

  • Shades of the scenery

    Subtle tonal differences between lifelines.

  • Shifting the center of gravity

Moving emphasis from control to observation.
